New Police Facility

Spencer Street Melbourne - 2012

Client: Baulderstone Construction

The demolition works preceding the construction of the new Police Station in Spencer Street Melbourne were designated as ‘high risk’ and designed accordingly. The removal of  the old Australia Post Exchange building in one of the busiest precincts of the CBD, called for highly detailed planning and project management, to protect surrounding buildings, pedestrians and traffic in the region.

The demolition  works made way for the $230 million 12-storey complex, housing 1500 staff on Spencer St, Docklands and was the first purpose-built police property to be constructed in the Melbourne CBD since the Russell St headquarters in 1943.

City Circle not only demolished the old structure, which had been a major presence in Spencer Street for many years and was able to undertake the work and then add value to the project by recycling over 22,000 tonnes of concrete and rubble at the Company’s C&D Recycling facilities. The project was delivered on time and on budget
